Outside of work

I do feel this section is as important than the other sections, as I know it is not just about what i can bring and do for the company, but also will I fit in with the teams. Below are a hand full of things I enjoy when I am not in the office. Surprisingly aircraft spotting isn't there - yet? However, I have been know to check flight trader to track a few aircraft.

This is just the highlights of what I enjoy outside of the office. If you want to know more, there are links at the bottom of the page where you can reach out to me.

Learning

I really do enjoy learning new skills which I can bring to the office. The challenge is trying to do this for free! I have found 2 websites in particular which are great for developing existing skills and learning new ones. I am not being paid or encouraged to endorse these websites. This is purely my personal opinion and happy for someone to recommend other websites which I can use.

Firstly, Alison - Free online courses with certificates! Such as IT, business, operations and marketing. You only pay for the certificate - hopefully no one will ask me for certificates as I have not purchased any. On your dashboard, it does show which courses you have completed

Secondly, Coursera - Same again, lots of free courses but you need to purchase the certificate. This website's courses are aimed more for coding languages, so as Python, Java Script and HTML5

But remember, Google always has the answer :-) and some really good courses!

Gateshead FC

Gateshead FC will always have a place in my heart.

My granddad has supported them since he was a lad, my brother had a short spell playing for them and I've always enjoyed supporting them from the stands.

After nearly losing the club due to the owners poor management of the club, the supporters saved the club and continues to be a supporters club which is going from strength to strength. We always welcome new members!

I like to class myself as an away supporter, since I don't get to many home games and there have been times when I've managed to get to more away games than home games! Since I don't get to show my support in the ground, I show my support when out and about instead, which does turn heads, or heeds as the local supporters would say.

Physio / Exercise

After a very serious accident, my recovery began like everyone else's recovery does - physio!

Over time, the physiotherapy has got easier so I've been encouraged to keep pushing, keep going which is exactly what I am doing.

I hate to say it but there is a part of me that enjoys the workout I've created for myself.

This is something which will continue throughout my life and I will continue to learn more about my body and the impact to different exercises. The homemade aids I have now have helped and I want to build on this.

Pallets

I wonder how my people have just pulled that confused face and said out loud "pallets"

But yes, pallets seem to be a favorite of mine. Mainly because i can get them for free and they are extremely versatile in their uses, once you have taken them apart.

Couple of examples below show what I have used pallets for...

Pallet chair

My garden chair and table.

Can you see "PAUL" engraved in the back of the chair?
Bird table

DIY

Given the pallet section, this should not be a surprise to you! I try to do it myself rather than getting someone in as I enjoy learning new skills and, overall, it is cheaper!

The list of things I have done myself is endless but I would say the highlights are:

  • Crazy paving path

  • Moving and replacing sockets and light fixings

  • Painting and decorating

  • Replaced the bathroom fixings

  • Car servicing

  • Up-cycling

Photography

Photography has always been a passion of mine. The pursuit of the perfect picture is what drives me. One which you cannot take your eyes off. Whilst I do not have a DSLR camera, or the best compact camera, I work with what I have and try to get the best out of it.

A couple of highlights from my collection...

Statue in Palma. Love the water droplets

Risky photo of Blackpool from the Pepsi Max Big one. Guess how high I was!

Miniature world - made me feel like a giant.

My niece enjoying some sparklers.

Traveling

No surprise there, given that I worked in the aviation industry and got cheap flights - if I was brave enough to go as a standby passenger (if the flight was fully booked, I did not get on). Everyone enjoys a good holiday and I am no different although my holiday category differs from time to time. Sometimes it is a European city break or a beach holiday.

Recently I have been enjoying the cities, towns and villages within the UK and have picked up a very bad habit.... Anywhere I go, I must get a fridge magnet! Once I purchase a larger magnetic board, I will upload a picture of the "map of the country" I have made from fridge magnets.
